What we previously knew about Isabelle is that she appeared in the 1860 and 1870 US census living in the household of Alfred and Julia Burnett. After that time, she vanished and it was though she could have died at a young age.
With the information provided by Isabelle’s descendent we can now trace this family. After leaving home Isabelle can be located in the 1880 US census married to William R. Tullis and living in Orange County, Texas. William listed his occupation as a farmer and is the son of James Tullis and Sarah Brown. William was born in Jackson, Mississippi on 29-Aug-1852.
William and Isabelle had six children.
1. Willis Mcgee Tullis, 18-Mar-1878 to 01-Apr-1941. Husband of Jennie Barcley.
2. Frederick Olive Tullis, 12-Nov-1886 to 01-Apr-1953. Husband of Mamie H. Nixon.
3. Ocie Lee Tullis, 23-Sep-1888 to 11-Jul-1954. Husband of Myrtle Ann Ross.
4. Daner Tullis, Sep-1890 to unknown.
5. Leonidas Tullis, Apr-1895 to unknown.
6. William Carl Tullis, 06-Feb-1900 to 21-Feb-1947. Died by drowning and was not married.
The
1900 US Census is full of information concerning Isabelle.[1]
She was born Jul 1860 and was married in 1875. William and
Isabelle had 11 children to which 6 were living in 1900. In
1900 the family was residing in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, where William made a living as a lumberman.
William
and Isabelle cannot be located in the 1910 or 1920 US census, though
in 1917 we can find William and Isabelle living in Houston, Texas.[2]
Isabelle was known to her family as “Belle” Burnett. There are a few instances where her children or grandchildren recorded her name as Elizabeth Burnett. Possibly her middle name was Elizabeth?
Isabelle died 28-Feb-1922 in Houston, TX and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Houston, TX. I am currently in contact with the cemetery concerning the burial records and will update the blog once I receive additional information.
William died 03-Sep-1922 in Fletcher, Texas and it is unknown where he is buried.
